Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, the city of Galle is an ethereal fusion of traditional Sri Lanka and the strong influences of the colonial heritage. Home to what is recognized as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites; the Galle Fort is certainly a key attraction in your travel to Galle. Galle was also believed to be the ancient city of Tarshish from where King Solomon obtained gems and spices for his kingdom thousands of years ago.

The city still bursts with vibrance as the villagers hobble around attending to their day to day activities. The magnificent views from the southern tip of Sri Lanka with stretches of nothing but the Indian Ocean are indeed an experience.

Travel to Galle is now a breeze with the opening of the new Southern Express Highway, making the journey from Colombo to Galle less than one hour.
